It’s a funny thing. Without a prompt for NaBloWriMo I’ve discovered I have to plumb the depths of my memories for something topical to write about that will grab you by the collar and pull you in with a gasp. I’m sitting here at nearly 8:45pm on a Monday night racking the far reaches of my brain to come up with something topical that will tickle the brains of the world out there beyond this little backwater corner of the web.

I could talk about how I think this whole “Occupy Wall Street” thing is going to take a terrible turn since it seems it’s been able to do is occupy places, protest vaguely and suck in every fringe group that’s been wading out there in the pool of the left leaning. It’s started to grate on the nerves of the businesses and citizens that are having to deal with a growing encampment of people. Important things like toilets, hygiene and other standards that usually are not a problem for a one day protest have flared up in this several weeks long action. And as far as I can tell they’re not intent on stopping this giant sit in.

I was listening on the radio today as our local AM news station was playing an interview from the guy who put together and made possible a Veterans Memorial that is now facing the growing crowds and a slowly encroaching rabble. There was the sound of annoyance and mild panic in his voice. He was genuinely concerned that this good and honest thing he had worked to make possible would be overrun by a bunch of unemployed people who were so angry that they’d just as soon sit and throw a week long fit than attempt to change the system in a more positive manner.

I wouldn’t say I think this whole “Occupy Wall Street” is a crock. I think in it’s early days it was a good idea. However when things start getting attention and when you’re living in a makeshift camp, things start to happen. There is a resounding amount of stories starting to creep out about how this pure movement is now turning dark with allegations of sex and drugs starting to become more prevalent. When you don’t have a central command structure or anything resembling accountability among the patchwork of socialist groups, communist groups, labor groups and other assembled fringe groups you’re no longer on message.

You’re putting out the worst kind of public relations. It’s a mass of anger with no real direction.

That’s just where I stand. I actually had a cordial twitter conversation with a Occupy Denver supporter. So there’s something good here.

Yet I get the sense as this thing goes on longer in New York and across the nation that somewhat haphazardly put together structure is going to start getting strained. I can only hope that this thing stops being jello and turns into a nice bundt cake.

I attended a Iranian Protest a year or so back on the steps of the State Capitol. These men and women had passion for their country and the people they loved within in it. They knew what was happening back home to their relatives and friends. They held a deep hatred towards the government that was killing and destroying the lives of people that deserved to be free of the insanity that was serving as their President. It was inspiring to see them stand up and let their voices be heard.

When I look at the Occupy movement, I’m not inspired. I’m find myself experiencing a unusual feeling of indifference to college students who have debt for degrees that are over represented in the crowded marketplace or have had their entire industry fall out. Those jobs may never recover and that industry may never return to the glory of yesteryear. I find it hard to support the causes and demands when talk of sharing money, taking money from people who’ve worked hard to earn that money, and this idea that someone owes you something.

Maybe it’s my politics. Maybe it’s because I’ve had to reinvent myself numerous times since the age of 15 1/2 when I started working. It might also be that I never finished college and with nothing but the knowledge I’ve gained over the years and the struggle to find a career that fits and has strength, I’ve found myself where I am.

Maybe it’s an issue of perspective in that I’ve not grown up in the world the Occupy Movement seems to live in and believe in so passionately. Perhaps I’ve just seen another side of these United States of America that I’m unable to comprehend this picture they’re painting on this canvas of confusion.

I’m not saying their wrong. I’m saying I mostly disagree with their methods and am increasingly worried it’s going to be their greatest downfall. People will get tired of them trying to block traffic on the Brooklyn Bridge. They’ll find the effort to separate all the different groups, ideals and goals tiring and irritating. Businesses, the city and the people that manage the parks and properties they’ve camped out on will find their patience running out on a movement that can’t seem to pick a direction and has done the next best thing.

Sat down and refused to get up.

Am I wrong? Right? Insane? Or part of the nasty Right Wing Conspiracy? Use the comments if you’d like or reply at me on twitter.

NotHannah is a cool lady. She’s politically left of me and therefore is the devil (just kidding!). To wit we somehow manage not to call in airstrikes on each other via twitter and blogs. She responded to my latest salvo in the post “Angry“ where I took to task The President and The Vice President for starting a fight from within their offices that should never have come from the hallowed halls of The White House. And so now I’m going to respond to hers. So there. Muah.

Here’s my response to your open letter: I admit I stopped around 8:35 when you said that the actions of the DNC mean that you can’t respect Democrats, mainly because by that token, I can no longer respect you, given the ugliness spewed by members of your party for the last two years. (Whoopsie, looks like I got a little bit angry myself.)

See, here’s the thing. I get that. My party played some dirty games. But they never pulled this trick. I don’t recall President Bush accusing a group in this fashion and then falling back on a McCarthy like defense, “Oh it’s not true? Prove you’re a real American!” Again I’ve put up with the antics of Obama, Biden, Axelrod, Rahm and others in an effort to tolerate and accept my brothers and sisters across the aisle. And I don’t deny that the (R)’s have done some less then respectable things in the past. But I’m talking now. Here. Today. A president who ran on a platform of doing things differently. Hope and Change. Anyone remember that? If anything this is worse than Bush when it comes to the election games. Just my opinion.

In an effort to remain calm about this, let me start by saying that I think the whole “stealing our democracy” thing is awful. AW. FUL. It plays to the fears of under-educated Americans and is a classic example of everything I think is wrong about American politics.

We can agree here.

However, in my mind, the comments made by President Obama, David Axelrod, and Robert Gibbs are compelling for two reasons. First, the Chamber of Commerce is throwing HUGE amounts of money into the election system. The CoC DOES include foreign entities with active lobbyists. I do not want ANY foreign entities lobbying my government–on EITHER side of the aisle. (Frankly, I’d be peachy with the idea of corporations not having lobbyists at all. Health care and immigration would be a whole lot more cut and dry if we weren’t dealing with corporate influence.) Thus, I want to know who’s funding the 75-plus million dollars flowing out of the Chamber in such a partisan fashion.

Here we go. The CoC operates under the same rules that everyone else does that governs foreign money. If we’re going to play this “open the books game” the only way this comes out straight is we do it to everyone. Including President Obama’s election group that helped pave the way to the presidency for him. We’re not going to play this pick and choose game Obama and his group has chosen simply for the thrill of winning a political cage match. That means everyone from all sides and corners. I’m pretty sure we’ll find most keeping the foreign money out of the election funds and playing it right. I’m also pretty sure Heather and a few others are going to see foreign money where they don’t believe it belongs. I’m still undecided on allowing outside donations to non-election funds.

Second, the Citizens United ruling opened up so many loopholes for corporations to influence elections that the very real possibility exists that our government will be controlled by these corporations. Whatever company is making the most money in a given election cycle might mean (very soon) that that company picks and installs whatever candidates work best for the company. This disgusts me. So, yes, I WANT to know where the Chamber gets the money it’s flinging around. I want to know where any PAC gets its money.

I understand but I’m not that far gone to believe in the conspiracy theory you’re floating here. I get the fear. It’s a fear perpetuated by movies, books, talking heads and others. I still believe in the ability of Americans to vote with their head (this has been proven a few times wrong but I believe still is the overall norm). I think we’re freaking out over something that isn’t as big of a blip on the election radar as some other issues. Again – my opinion.

I think Americans SHOULD know the truth about these things and I think it’s up to the entities forking over the big bucks to prove that the bucks are legitimate. What is chilling to me here is that the speculation comes down on the president, NOT on a megalithic corporate enterprise that has the interests of business owners (particularly those with deep pockets) and NOT those of the business workers at heart.

See this is where I start to be concerned. We shouldn’t be demanding “Prove it or it’s true!” This doesn’t strike me as the right way to go about accusing groups, companies and organisations of faults. Get the evidence. I recall something about our justice system that says, “Innocent until proven guilty.” I like this policy. If they suspect something, fear something or have a inkling there’s gotta be something to back it up. Something substantial to hold onto versus this wildly baseless accusations that have been dismissed by nearly everyone in political, media and most rational blogging circles.

The President shouldn’t have taken The Office of President into the ditch and rolled around in the mud with this stuff. Leave it to someone else in the lower echelons. Now he looks like a fool along with rest of them. That’s where I stand.

Arg. This post is being put together quite late (read 10:30PM) and I’m castigating myself up and down for watching “Doctor Who – The End of Time Part 1 & 2″ instead of pounding on my bully pulpit with infuriated hands and letting loose my sanctimonious spittle filled ideas.

Who am I kidding? I’d rather watch David Tennant mug for the camera in costume and recite the American, French and Bulgarian alphabet than have to slog out something resembling intelligence as it relates to politics. That’s how much politics frustrates me these days. It’s both sides of the aisle on the slapping block.

We’ve lost the ability to be moderate and open. Somehow it’s us versus them in a battle royale where first blood is a requirement not a suggestion anymore. We call the other side “close minded” and “out of step with America”. I’d like to know how two sides can be out of step with so many people. You wonder why Tom Tancredo’s running here in CO? Cause the Colorado GOP is daft, dumb and a disaster. Want to know the truth? I’d vote for Tancredo before the nutcase (and I say that in the nicest way…really!) Maes or the lying cheating McInnis. People say we have to hold our noses or else we’ll lose position and power when the primaries and all that come up again.

To that I say – we should. If the state GOP puts forth one of the worst tickets in my recent memory, they should pay the price and so should we. Shame on us for letting them put this sham-mockery together and shame on us for not being more proactive. How did the Republicans lose even a slight chance against Hick? Look no further than our two GOP frontrunners. Our state tanked it this year. Called it in and walked away for a week on Bermuda with the boys.

I do love politics – the kind that gets things done. I despise showboating, posturing, pointless point making and overall I despise most of the men and women who are serving our country in The House and The Senate. I’m also itchin’ to lay down some smack down on our President, but I’ll do my best to leave that to next week. It’s frustrating to see all this going on when common sense from both parties would do us all a bunch of good.

Apparently drinking the Kool-Aid in DC has longer term effects than we could ever have imagined. If you don’t mind, I’ll be over here sippin’ on some Tang and mourning the loss something resembling anything but insanity.

Ain’t politics grand?

I’ll update tomorrow with posts from the past as it’s a bit late and I need my sleeps.

The Illegal Immigration bill that was passed in Arizona has suddenly raised a ruckus. Roused the Rabble from their stupor and now the game is on, even afoot. Cities across the nation (including Denver Public Schools even!) have prohibited their employees from traveling to Arizona in protest of what they and (interestingly enough) The President feel is the most a** backwards law this country has ever seen since the first Pilgrim/Spainard/WhoeverReallyDiscoveredThisCountryAnyway landed on this great land of ours.

Some of that was paraphrased or shortened for brevity to best bring the point home. I can only hope you’ll stick with me as I lay down the parenthetical points. Or if I’ve offended you (there’s a chance of that), you’re long gone from my sarcastical sinews. The sarcasm probably will continue interspersed throughout this long winded statement.

First of all – this is not the end of the world, our nation or Lord Above Save Us, the introduction of the New Nazi Party. Small aside, but the moment either side says the words, “Nazi, Hitler, Stalin, Skinhead” or other various related phrases and statements in argument or discussion about “the other side”, you have my permission (and encouragement) to move to Canada where they have some very excellent and wonderful laws about the stupid things you’re allowed to say, write and otherwise disseminate.

Put simply – it’s not the terrifying rolling on of the Gestapo or SS. Rather the law is done to shake things up. Make some noise. It has accomplished all these things. Shakira recently traveled to AZ and stated, “I didn’t bring my DL with me, so I’m bascially undocumented!” Lord Love Shakira (and believe me, I appreciate her beauty and dancing talent) but is this really the kind of conversation we need? The shrill screaming and point making from various celebrities whose music we love but ideas sometimes sound like the thoughts of an ostrich on crack.

Mind you, Shakira’s aim was to seek the answers so don’t think I’m laying the animal that sticks its head in the sand label on her. However, this kind of discussion, posturing and drinking of the rank and insipid Kool Aid does us absolutely no favors. The intense cloud of anger and hate that has suddenly flared up and now festers against the State of Arizona is fairly obscene. This comes back to the beauty of this country. We all can believe, support and vote the way we want. We can participate in the process. To slap a “YOU’RE BAD PEOPLE” on the entire state of Arizona over something like this…reeks.

Andy McCarthy over at National Review takes the law apart calmly and without calling people names which in the blog world is fairly impressive. He starts off with this,

“Contrary to the hysterical charges of racism being leveled at the statute, it does not permit a no-holds-barred inquisition of Hispanic people. Indeed, the state law demands more of police than federal law. To begin with, there is to be no inquiry about a person’s immigration status unless the “contact” between the police officer and the person is “lawful” in the first instance.”

Mr. McCarthy then breaks down the law and the particulars of what is allowed and what isn’t. In reality the long list of requirements actually makes the case for the ACLU of all people. The Law appears strong. In this day and age when the focus so deep on this issue, it’s fairly impressive how the law reads and should be interpreted.

The long and the short of it is this – If you are illegally in the country, you will face the Rule of Law. You will not be allowed to continue remaining in this country against the Law. Fairly simple. The trouble is that a State did this, not the Feds. You see, the Feds have spent the last ten months hammering out a healthcare bill. There’s also supposed to be a jobs bill around here somewhere up for talks. Instead we’re doing something about Puerto Rico’s statehood which unless I missed something, isn’t even a concern right now.

To wit – The United States of America needs…nay, DEMANDS comprehensive immigration reform. It’s been a big need, want, desire and demand for a long time. When Jobs were in those categories we got a long drug out Healthcare bill that won’t even do anything for several years. Now we’re behind the eight ball in what is needed and wanted. We’ve got things that need fixing in this Country, things that need to be worked out and the time is now.

Instead we’ll get insipid debate, kool air projectile speakers, both sides trashing the other and statements from Our President about how a law is ill-advised. Let the Attorney General makes those calls Mr. President. Let that branch work it out through lawsuits and process. While they work that out, the men and women of the Senate, the House and the Executive Branch must focus on what America needs. Jobs and Immigration. These are your challenges.

To copy the popular advertisement I say this to our Senate, Congress and President – I will remember in November. And the rest of this country be it Democrat, Republican or Independent will remember.

Now if we could just all wish Charlie Crist out of politics, I would be a happy man.

Closing statement to McCarthy at the end of his solid blog –

As I indicated in my column, I agree with Byron: The people who are complaining about this law almost certainly either have not read it or are demagogues who would make the same absurd claims no matter what they law said.

If yesterday was in indication of anything is that we’ve still got a long way to go when it comes to political discussion. I’ve decided that I’m going to make it a part time mission to elevate the level of talk when it comes to politics. I think we’re in a spinning vortex of insanity when it comes to a lot of this stuff. Sometimes putting down the Kool-Aid is a good thing.

Yesterday on Twitter I posted a bevy of bountiful statements about politics and how discussion and disagreement should be handled in my opinion. I’m reposting them here in a full collection so it’s all together and so that you can see where I stand on all this. Maybe even start a discussion of some kind.

Let’s call it “Aaron’s Rules of Political Discussion”

Just cause Brown wins doesn’t mean it’s suddenly 2012, Republicans are Nazis (again) or that healthcare reform is dead.

If politics & party affilation decide who you talk/twitter/associate with…you may need to take a step back & breath.

If you see (R) or (D) next to someones name & start to think of them as bad/evil/nazi/socialist/bushhitler…you may need a breather.

If you think conservatives and republicans are out to get you/your party/obama/freedom…you may need to quit the Kool Aid habit.

If you think one win for either party will decide the future of healthcare reform, you need to fill that glass half full.

Politics is meant to be discussed & figured out. If you refuse to see the other side & meet in middle to simply talk…what good are you?

I am tired of people saying its the end of the world with all this political talk. Buck up kids & pull up your bootstraps. Or I will!

You can either cling to your party & listen to what people tell you about the other side…or you can come talk to me. I’m always open.

Let’s try and make this a year of change when it comes to the political discussion and conversation.

Politics should never be the end of the world, friendships or relationships.

And with that, we go to the tale of the tape!

Martin

My rating: 3 of 5 stars
This book is hard to quantify because of a few things. One is that George RR Martin is a seriously impressive author. Legend is one of the words that would be use to describe him. His Throne Of Kings series blows the door, walls and roof off anything that tries to compete.

And therein lies the trouble. This book is a short novel and is not a three or four book volume series where details and stories can be slowly marinated over a warm fire. The ideas and backstory is avalanched down on the reader and before you know it you’re reading through a encyclopedia entry of the history of the past and present of the world and characters.

Again, Martin is unparalleled in his story telling and talent. However in my opinion this book is almost too much too fast. The last 3/4 finally picks up and then uses what we’ve just learned to give us a great ending and page turning climax. Trouble is this wasn’t long enough to justify reading through the entire history to get there.

The story is great and the characters wonderfully written. Just tried to fit too much into too little space.

Today was supposed to be politics, but I’m pretty fed up with the whole political chess board right now. I think if I tried to quantify my frustration I’d probably have another stroke (this is a joke…nobody wants another stroke) or end up throwing myself into a padded room with locks and a custom fit jacket.

I’ve also discovered that I primarily enjoy fictional writing. It’s taken less then twenty days of National Blog Writing Month but I figured it out. I’m just not that into blogging anymore. I obviously have things to say but most of the time it’s not worth trying to put the small voice out there. I’d probably write more about politics and religion but I feel as if both arenas have been overrun and fouled beyond recognition. Any kind of courteous discourse has been left at the edge of the field that has now become a battleground 0f ideology, theology and political theory. The lines between the two subjects seems to blur, twist and turn at times into something that is both terrifying and fascinating.

Couple that with the “devils advocate” perspective I’ve taken on Christianity and you’ve really not going to get anywhere with what you’ve got bouncing around in your head. I think given some time and maturing I can get these ideas fertilized and marinated into something that resembles a strong steak worthy of a few awards.

All this to say that I’ve found that nurturing my novel writing side has begun to take root within my heart and soul. Come November I’ll be writing a novel through the entire month. I may not survive. I may end up going crazy or wandering around 16th street mall telling everyone Hilary Clinton is a lizard intent on killing us all (*cough* balloon boys dad is crazy *cough*) but dang it I will have written a novel by the end of November.

It is my destiny.

My political heart bleeds red, white and blue all day long. My last name should tell you most of what you need to know. DeLay. Heard of Tom DeLay? My immediate family (brother, father, grandfather, aunts, uncles) are all very politically minded and are not out of the loop on much. I enjoy getting into debates and discussions about the issues of the day.

Well, I should amend that. I used to.

These days it seems the rhetoric from both sides has ratcheted up to near apocalyptic levels. A democrat representative recently said that Republican’s health plan is basically designed to kill you. He then compared it to The Holocaust. He’s labeled R’s all kinds of lovely names and labels without apology. He did apologize for insulting The Holocaust but was content to continue slinging mud across the aisle.

The Right isn’t immune. One of our guys shouted “You lie!” at the president during a speech. He duly apologized (but did not say the “Lie” part was untruthful) and then had the D’s spend time to draw up a condemanation even after President Obama said one apology was fine and it was water under the bridge. Several other R’s have taken part in the mud slinging.

Mind you some back and forth is part of the political system. Neither side is ever really “friends” in the way you imagine but they’re still across the board usually interested in taking the country into the future.

I could list page after page of representatives and media types from both sides of the aisle that have taken us a staggering step or two backwards but I would be wasting my time.

I’ve had people tell me that because I believe in something that isn’t what they believe politically that there’s nothing for us to even talk about. Whatever happened to having a discussion? Sure, we disagree on the how, when and maybe a little on the why but usually we can find some common ground to grudgingly respect each other.

Politics and the processes within should never be life or death. It should never dictate who you will talk with or won’t. It should never lead you to dismiss someone simply because they have a (R) or a (D) by their name. I’ve seen it happen and experienced it. It is galling, disappointing and enraging. Politics is a at times a game and at times a process of getting what needs to be done. It will never be fast, quick or easy. If it was, our country would probably be in flames at the bottom of some cliff buried under other failures.

If you would not talk to me, walk away from me or otherwise dismiss what I am and what I have to say simply because I exist on the other side of the political spectrum then you are truly lost. The kid gloves are off here, so hold steady. If you cannot have a conversation without letting your anger get the best of you, you’re done. If you still blame former President Bush for our troubles, I need you to sit down and breath.

If you think Obama is going to kill us all and put the rest in camps…move to Canada and never come back. If you think Barack is the next Hitler, you’ve done two things that make you useless in political discussion. One – anytime you compare any American politician to Hitler you’ve left the discussion reservation and clearly had too much of the kool aid. Two, taking the level of the discussion as far as to liken Barack Obama to a clearly evil man who killed millions and inspired his country to do the same…well, you know the rest.

If you think that the birth certificate of our president is in question…you may need to take the aluminum foil off your head and leave the house once in awhile. Sun helps clear up the paranoia usually.

Maybe the point of this is thusly – politics was never supposed to be Keith Olbermann, Glenn Beck, Bill O’Reilly or Rachel Maddow. It was meant to be discussed with rational and clear thought. The idea that we can agree to disagree while finding to something to shake hands on and not look at the other side as the “enemy” and “what’s wrong with America”.

I’d pronounce politics dead right this minute if I didn’t believe there are others out there that believe the same as myself. As long as a few believers remain, there is still hope for the future of political discussion and process.

I hope you and others that read this will help us get back to that future. As Doc Brown said once, “Roads…where we’re going we don’t need roads!”

How about it?

Feel free to comment below agreeing, disagreeing etc. Just don’t throw mud. I just cleaned up the place.

It should be noted that these blog posts are my opinion and not that of any church I have attended or currently attend. Savvy? -aaron

Something has always bothered me about The Christian Church. Perhaps it is because I have a secret hope that one day the ideal Church will return to existence and stick around for a little longer. You know the church I’m talking about – the one that works. “But Aaron”, you say “the Church already works just fine!” And I would look at you, take a deep breath and decide how best to say it.

You see, I’m a bit of an extremist when it comes to what I think of The Church. I’d probably upset quite a few people at the church I volunteer at if I told them just how I felt about the way they run things. When I think of how The Church should be I flash back (way back) to the book of Romans, Acts and others where the idea of The Church was just being born within the minds of the founders and former apostles. The daily involvement with the community and the intense focus on reaching out to those around them.

The church of old didn’t always make friends mind you. There was conflict and battles to be had throughout the cities where the Christian message was spreading. I wouldn’t way we need those kind of days back (I’m a fragile flower people) but I think there’s so much missing today I’m not sure we’ll be around to see the rest of the story of this world.

What I mean to say is that I personally think the Church is headed for death mired in the mud of irrelevance. You can find countless studies that show The Church nationwide and even worldwide is falling behind in the times. People are walking away in higher numbers and turning to other answers in their search for Truth.

And I think part of this started back in 1st Corinthians where Paul (formerly the Hitler-esque Saul) lays the smack down on the church in Corinth about dividing according to who they follow or who baptized them. Today the divisions/denominations of the Christian Church runs the gamut from one end of the spectrum to the other. It is mired in small differences to ideas on theology combined with differential opinions on translation topped off with whatever else we humans could find to use to further divide us away from fellow Followers of Christ.

Paul makes a point to say he remembers only a few of the people he baptized. He’s not overly concerned with who did what as long as the message of Christ remains the same simple straightforward statement. Could it really be that hard? After watching the church over the last twenty years as a young boy to a young man I’m convinced we’ve done no better in my time on this earth. Sure, there’s been moments but in the long run big picture master plan we’ve crashed, burned and dug ourselves into holes we seem unable or unwilling to abandon.

See what I said about me being a touch extreme? I’m the Church’s Devils Advocate. I’ve spent the better part of my years volunteering in ministry (Children’s, Youth and Etc) watching humanity take something great and throw it out with the baby and the bathwater. I’m not sure if The Church will survive the upheaval coming with everything on the horizon, but I’m sure Megachurch buildings are not the answer.

And I attend what most would consider a mega church. If they haven’t kicked me out yet…

Chew on these thoughts and read through Paul’s words below. Focus on the section near the end where he talks about Human Wisdom versus The Gospel. And wonder if we’re really doing it right.

Feel free to comment, complain, assault or otherwise tell me I’m nuts. I’m open to discussion and processing through ideas. I may be right, I may be wrong but the beauty of it is that we can talk through it.

Hopefully.

1 Corinthians 1:10-17 (New International Version)

Divisions in the Church

10I appeal to you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another so that there may be no divisions among you and that you may be perfectly united in mind and thought. 11My brothers, some from Chloe’s household have informed me that there are quarrels among you. 12What I mean is this: One of you says, “I follow Paul”; another, “I follow Apollos”; another, “I follow Cephas[a]“; still another, “I follow Christ.”

13Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized into[b] the name of Paul? 14I am thankful that I did not baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius, 15so no one can say that you were baptized into my name. 16(Yes, I also baptized the household of Stephanas; beyond that, I don’t remember if I baptized anyone else.) 17For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel—not with words of human wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.

It’s on. And I’m not talking about those trendy Southwest Airlines ads.

This is where the rubber meets the road. The moment of truth. As Iran spins wildly out of control on the brink of civil war we must all confront in ourselves where we stand. No matter our creed, our color, our beliefs or moral inclinations, there is one thing that we must all agree on once more.

There are bad men in this world. And one of them sits at the helm of the Islamic Republic of Iran. But more so is the grand controller of all things Iran. The Supreme Whatever His Face who is the real game changer. The man who for some reason is going along with Mahmoud in accepting and okaying the blatant theft of an election.

Over the last four days it has become clear that no one has control of the people. Between twitter, twitpic and various other means of social media the message has come clear from within Iran from her people.

Help us. Please.

It is without question horrifying to watch the you tube footage, to view the pictures streaming in from various sources and to hear the screams, the cracks of weapons and the powerful voices screaming against a madman. They are united in one voice. They are mad as hell and they are not going to take it.

It is the revolution that has been long in coming. For the last few years all the president of Iran has done is insult, spit and generally throw fits at western nations. Intended to show the rest of the middle east that he is indeed a bad mother trucker it has had the reverse effect. It has put his country into a corner, isolated them from those that might help them and generally offended the ones that could lend a hand. North Korea is practicing the doppelganger game to near precision.

The students and thinkers of Iran are in a rage. They have watched this election move so fast and blow past each and every rule designed to certify the results. Reports of the madcap election madness came quick and fast. Ballot boxes burned. Election shenanigans that would have made Hugo Chavez proud pushed the final button. The straw that broke the camels back. The switch had been flipped.

The revolution we had hoped for is here. The power of the people is evident beyond anything we could of imagined. This renewed intense focus is powered by the ideological belief that change can happen and that if enough begins to boil a explosion can be had.

It is now up to those that can speak. It is now up to the media powerhouses that have fed us for so long to step up to the plate and begin to use that unique ability of broadcast to bring this moment before everyone’s eyes to finally see that indeed there are people inside of Iran.

They are willing. They are ready. They are moving.

Will we help? Will the President move on this? Will the rest of the western world do something, anything? Or will we watch as hundreds upon hundreds (and more unreported) die at the hands of hate filled power hungry dictators unable to see the good that can be had in this day and age?

It is in our hands now.

Will we answer the call for help?
