Something Bloggy This Way Comes

Here we are once more at the edge of the prose-ical precipice of National Blog Writing Month.  Hanging by both hands, tentatively looking down at the thirty days of writing that awaits and wondering if this was a good idea.  Well, it is.  And was.  Back in 2006 I found out about NaBloWriMo and I’ve been hooked ever since.  My site archives have recently taken flight into error land but I’m working to get most of them back so I can flash back to the last six or so years of this crazy thing.

I think I missed one year and fell apart halfway through another but I’m going to gloss over that and stake my claim as having doing this for nearly six years.  I feel old.

My name is Aaron DeLay and I’m thirty years old.  I’m addicted to The Doctor and have recently found myself drooling over “Once Upon a Time”.  I’ve got “Grimm” on my radar, love Star Trek and adore the original Star Wars.  I’m a book nerd, a uber geek turned up to 11 and a lover of Jesus every which way possible and more.  I love to tell stories and someday I’ll be like Roald Dahl.

I’m a stroke survivor.  I was just down the road from Columbine as a Sophomore at Littleton High School on April 20th.  I traveled to New York a month after the 9-11 attacks to serve in ministry.  I’ve spent a year and a half in the Philippines.  I was born in Montana, raised in Oregon and grew up in Littleton, Colorado.

I’m an odd duck with my moderate middle of the road willing to listen and talk way of doing things.  I believe in relational ministry and my recently passed Grandfather is a shining example of how that can work over 90 plus years.  I’m a Republican given to Democratic thoughts but I’ve been off the Kool-Aid for years now and the shakes have stopped, thank you very much.  I’m pretty sure we’re going to end up in some dystopia where various elements of every single post apocalyptic film, book or play will be evident.

I’m a bit eccentric, more than a little crazy and given to garrulous laughter that’ll make you wonder how you know me.  I’ve got a dorky sense of humor, love to see someone smile and adore coffee shops for people watching.  I’m a hopeless romantic with a weakness for green eyed girls and angel food cake topped with strawberries.

I love to write.  I create so many stories, plots and characters in my head it’d make you spin around like a mad top.  I’ve never completed a National Novel Writing Month in my life and this month should help get me prepared to write daily and reach the finish line this November.

And that’s me in a nutshell.  Well, not really.  I wouldn’t last long in a nutshell.  And I’d get claustrophobic, freak out and then you’d have a nutshell rolling around as if possessed.  And then you’d have to call a priest, get the holy water…well we know how this all ends.  Pea soup on everyone.  And nobody likes pea soup.

Correction on that paragraph up there talking about me as a “bit eccentric”.  Let’s just admit it.  I’m madly eccentric.

Still interested in reading along this month?  Then let’s strap in, set the TARDIS to tomorrow with a whoop and a shout.  Alonsy, Geronimo, Tally-Ho, Pip-Pip, and Bernard’s your uncle!

I may need bigger words than “madly eccentric”.

Greetings Aaron, I am glad to make your acquaintance. I loved your #NaBloWriMo blog entry. It is very colorful and made me smile big time. Thank you for sharing it. My #NaBloWriMo posts are not nearly as interesting and could even be classified as totally boring but I at least got them written and that is more than I can say about blog posts for the past several months.

As for eccentricity, that is totally my MO so I can relate to claiming the label. It is part of your blogging charm. I hope that I remember to check out your blog daily but I can’t promise because I have so much brain fog interfering with my “memory channels.”

I wish you well with #NaBloWriMo and hope that you have a successful foray into #NaNoWriMo.

    Deep Peace,
