You remember Jerry from the “Smokey and the Bandit” movies. He was also one of the best artists of a generation. He’s one of my favorites and it was sad when he passed away some years back. Man was just cool personified. Two songs below for your listening pleasure. Both are hilarious fun. First is “Amos Moses” and second is “Lord Mr. Ford.”

I think that my life could be made into a movie. I’m not saying this because I’m cooler than most of you or anything. I think it would make a great John Cusack bromance romantic comedy medical drama with a little thriller here and there. I’m pretty sure Mr. Cusack’s films that have featured many of these similar kind of storylines would lend themselves to my story. In fact, I don’t think anyone could play me with as much finesse as John Cusack.

What music would my movie contain? Well, I’m glad you asked. Because I’m going to tell you. Whether you like it or not. So there.

The opening credits would be set to The Call’s “Let the Day Begin”.

This would be set against a flyover/street drive of Denver with interspersed scenes of John Cusack going through my daily life but looking so much cooler doing it.

Then it would of course show me going to work at the hospital as a supervisor guy. It would of course be far more hilarious and witty than my normal day and BTO’s “Taking Care of Business” would play over the montage of action and inaction throughout the work night.

Eventually the work day would come to an end and I would close out the shift. To drive the point of the loneliness of a second shift job and what it means I’d have Bob Segar’s “Night Moves” playing over the scenes of me saying goodnight and gazing yearningly (it’s a word…shutup) at the crush that I eventually will win the heart of at the end of the movie. I mean John Cusack will win her heart. I’ll just smile at the casting choice of Julia Stiles as the love interest.

Obviously Night Moves is an odd choice to highlight aloneness, but I think it’d work. Plus, John Cusack can pull off anything. This would of course then require Mr. Cusack as a matter of plot go out and try the dating scene. This is where Gene Pitney’s “Town Without Pity” would come in and lay it on thick as my character would be rebuffed, returned and routed.

Of course it’d be played for some laughs and heartstrings which is what Cusack excels at. At this point the movie would have my character run into someone at work or at a bus stop. Then the sparks would fly. She’d be perfect but yet a shrew to my advances. It’d be like climbing K2 but with John Cusack levels of hilarity.

Trace Atkins “Swing” would probably be played over scenes of Cusack and his wing man (probably a Jack Black character of some kind) as several days/weeks is shown where my character is trying to get to the heart of the woman and failing miserably. It’d be hilarious.

Somehow we’d end up at a romantic scene and this would require the song from Lady and the Tramp “Bella Notte” to play over the scene.

There’d probably be a karaoke scene where I sing “Natural Woman” by Aretha Franklin thereby sealing her lover for me in that moment. Or something.

What would happen next? That’s for next weeks Wednesday NABLOWRIMO post. Don’t hold your breath too long or nothin’.

I have a deep and abiding love for music. This love is complicated by my eclectic collection of music and artists and the simple fact that I don’t have a cadre of favorite artists that I cull my musical listening. A former roommate once commented that those that are unable to name a favorite artist are empty headed fools with no real true appreciation for music.

She was also a music nerd/snob so I couldn’t really disagree with her because simply put I would never be right in her eyes. Her musical interests also ran completely counter to my own so that may have had something to do with it.

The point is that I have one artist of which I worship without question. Beyond that my Itunes library is like a paper supply train wreck. It’s all over the place and literally lacks a focus that you find in most people’s musical library.

The top number one? Elvis Aaron Presley. He’s the King of Rock and Roll and will never be topped. I love his music, I love his voice and his life fascinates me. It’s sad to know that Elvis started the trend of death by artistry within the music community that we’ve never really managed to buck all these years later.

I will admit to having weak spot for classic rock and roll and oldies with some do-wop mixed in for good measure. I grew up listening to the local oldies station wherever we lived and jamming to the music of the ages. People look at me weird when I say most of this new music is crap. I blame my parents for feeding me some of the greatest music of all time.

Which brings me to the second part of my complicated love of music.

I don’t know anything about it. Often my musical collection is expanded my either me stumbling onto a CD I like or finding some random music online. I don’t listen to the radio anymore because my Ipod and Pandora radio give me my musical intravenous feed. When I say I don’t know anything about music, I mean it. I can’t tell you any of AC/DC’s songs outside of what I have on my computer. Aerosmith? My knowledge extends down through the depths of my playlist but that’s where it ends.

People look at me strange when they ask me if I’ve heard this song or that song from an artist I know and love. I try and explain to them that I simply don’t have that knowledge for whatever reason. It may be that eclectic musical interest to blame as I’ve never been satisfied to stay within a genre or type of music. I’ll jam equally to Country, Rock, Alternative, Jazz, Classical, Soundtracks, Heavy Metal and even folk. Once I find that song or two from an artist that I enjoy I never take it beyond that point.

I know this is a condition that needs fixing so I’m going to ask my readers and NaBloWriMo writers to suggest me some musical tunes. You can use my last.fm profile as mild guideline but that’s not a complete list.

So, how about you? Your musical interests? What did you parents introduce to through the years of growing up? And is there some music you cannot stand? Spill in comments!

“Lovin’ Each Day” by Ronan Keating!

Yeah – uh
We’re lovin’ each day as if it’s our last
Dancing all night and havin’ a blast
Oh baby I need you here

Girl I’m on a mission
To cure my condition
Cos without your kissin’
My heart’s just a prison
I’m hoping and wishin’
That girl I’m forgiven
Say yeah

Cos every time you leave me I’m sad
The moment you’re returning I’m glad
So let’s not go forgetting what we have
Cause it’s bad

We’re lovin’ each day as if it’s our last
Dancing all night and havin’ a blast
Oh baby, I want you right here next to me
We’re lovin’ each day as if it’s our last
Dancing all night and havin’ a laugh
Please baby I need you here

If I hurt your feelings
Then baby we’re even
Cos I’ve been bereavin’
Since you said you’re leaving
But now you’re by my side…
Let’s not fight…
Cos you’re right

That every time I lose you
I’m lost
No more you versus me girl
There’s just us
Cos anything without you’s
Just a bust
Baby trust
You’re a must

We’re lovin’ each day as if it’s our last
Dancing all night and havin’ a blast
Oh baby, I want you right here next to me
We’re lovin’ each day as if it’s our last
Dancing all night and havin’ a laugh
Please baby I need you here

So don’t go throwing our love away
It’s here to stay
I’m telling you
There’s nothing that could stop us anyway
Our love is an ocean
Let’s get it in motion

We’re lovin’ each day as if it’s our last
Dancing all night and havin’ a blast
Oh baby, I want you right here next to me
We’re lovin’ each day as if it’s our last
Dancing all night and havin’ a laugh
Please baby I need you here
I need you here
I need you here
I need you here

I suppose you could probably attach the label schizophrenic to me sometimes. I have a long documented hate for the day of February 14th. (see here, here, here).

But then the day comes and I have this place in my heart that softens a little and gets all mushy and stuff. I guess I’m not a true Patriot Against Valentines. My friend Pat is a true hater of Valentines Day. He usually does a missive that I do enjoy.

Maybe I’m a weak little man. Maybe I’m just one big softie. For those lucky enough to have a significant other, have a great day celebrating your love, crush or whatever it is you call it.

And know that one day is not enough for love. There are 364 days left that need fillin’. And now, Percy Sledge will sing us out. See our list of songs we love here.
Percy Sledge, “When a Man Loves a Woman.”

When a man loves a woman
Can’t keep his mind on nothing else
He’ll trade the world
For the good thing he’s found
If she’s bad he can’t see it
She can do no wrong
Turn his back on his best friend
If he put her down

When a man loves a woman
Spend his very last dime
Tryin’ to hold on to what he needs
He’d give up all his comfort
Sleep out in the rain
If she said that’s the way it ought to be

Well, this man loves a woman
I gave you everything I had
Tryin’ to hold on to your precious love
Baby, please don’t treat me bad

When a man loves a woman
Down deep in his soul
She can bring him such misery
If she plays him for a fool
He’s the last one to know
Lovin’ eyes can’t ever see

When a man loves a woman
He can do no wrong
He can never own some other girl
Yes when a man loves a woman
I know exactly how he feels
‘Cause baby, baby, baby, you’re my world

When a man loves a woman…..

OoOOoOoOOooO…BOO!

Right. I scared ya. I scared ya pants less. Er…wait. Put those back on.

Happy Halloween. Where little kids and grown ups all get dressed up and walk around hitting people up for candy. Whoop whoop. I never really enjoyed Halloween as a kid. I was always dressed as Dracula because as well all know…Drac gets the ladies. All the Dracula movies have these pretty ladies with him so I guess as boy I figured if the movie Drac could do it, so could I!

It never worked. I do have something for you today as the last post before we sign off with fresh content. I have a song I love. It’s an oldie but it’s by one of the best groups in ‘da world. See the rest below…

So far we have the following songs:

“Mr. High and Mighty” by Gov’t Mule
“Beautiful Love” by The Afters
“Bella Notte” from Disney’s Lady and the Tramp
“Oklahoma Texas Line” By Rascal Flatts
“Swing” By Trace Adkins
“Walk Away” by Kelly Clarkson
“Eye to Eye” by Tevin Campbell
“Streetcorner Symphony” by Rob Thomas
“Alrightokuhhuhamen” by Rich Mullins
“Honky Tonk Badonkadonk” by Trace Adkins
“Town Without Pity” by Gene Pitney
“Walking on Sunshine” by Katrina and the Waves
“Ready to Go” by Republica
“I Want You” by Savage Garden
“I Try” By Macy Gray
“Superman” by Five For Fighting
“Let The Day Begin” by The Call
“I Thank The Lord For the Night Time” by Neil Diamond
“Moving Right Along” by The Muppets
“L-O-V-E” By Nat King Cole
“Good Mornin’” From Singing in The Rain
“Something Familier” From A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum

A nice list. And our newest song is…

Beauty is only skin deep by The Temptations…

So in love, sad as can be, cause a pretty face got the best of me
Suddenly, you came into my life and gave it meaning and pure delight
Now good looks I’ve learned to do without, Cause now I know it’s love that really counts

Cause I know that beauty’s only skin deep ya,ya,ya
I know that beauty’s only skin deep oh,ya, yes it is

Now you speak your words warm and sincere, it lets me know that you love dear
A pretty face you may not posses, but what I like about you is your tenderness
A pretty face may be may be some guys taste, but I’ll that lovin’ any old place

Cause I know that beauty’s only skin deep ya,ya,ya
And you know that beauty’s only skin deep oh,ya, oh baby

My friends ask what do I see in you? But it goes deeper than the eye can view
You have a pleasin’ personality and that’s an ever lovin’ rare quality
Now show me a girl, a girl that’s fine, an I’ll choose the one with true lovin’ every
time

Because I know that beauty’s only skin deep ya,ya,ya
And I believe that beauty’s only skin deep oh,ya

So if your lookin’ for a lover, don’t judge a book by it’s cover
She may be fine on the outside, but soooo untrue on the inside

I know that beauty’s only skin deep ya,ya,ya
And you know that beauty’s only skin deep oh,ya

We’re working hard here for a Monday. We’re doing a “festival” day here in Quezon City where each “team” celebrates a Filipino Festival. We’ve got banners, fashions shows and tons of fun stuff planned today. In the middle of all that work, we have to actually do something useful. So we’ll balence it out.

For the moment, we’re jamming to tunes. Which brings me to another “Breaking Into Song” post.

So far we have…

“Beautiful Love” by The Afters
“Bella Notte” from Disney’s Lady and the Tramp
“Oklahoma Texas Line” By Rascal Flatts
“Swing” By Trace Adkins
“Walk Away” by Kelly Clarkson
“Eye to Eye” by Tevin Campbell
“Street Symphony” by Rob Thomas
“Alrightokuhhuhamen” by Rich Mullins
“Honky Tonk Badonkadonk” by Trace Adkins
“Town Without Pity” by Gene Pitney
“Walking on Sunshine” by Katrina and the Waves
“Ready to Go” by Republica
“I Want You” by Savage Garden
“I Try” By Macy Gray
“Superman” by Five For Fighting
“Let The Day Begin” by The Call
“I Thank The Lord For the Night Time” by Neil Diamond
“Moving Right Along” by The Muppets
“L is for the way…” By Frank Sinatra
“Good Mornin’” From Singing in The Rain
“Something Familier” From A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum

This song is jamming and it’s why I’m adding it to the list. Plus, it’s just cool to mouth along with it and play air guitar. Yea I know. I’m weird. But you love me…right?

“Mr. High and Mighty” by Gov’t Mule

Mr. High and Mighty standing with your back against the wall
They better jump when you say jump, they better crawl when you say crawl

Buildings crumble and peasants cower at the sound of your name
But was it God that gave you that power or is it merely fame

Mr. High and Mighty who are your sights set on now with your fair-weather fortune and your gold sacred cow

You reunite with your long lost brothers on an old abandoned ship
There was a time when you brought joy to others
Guess you got caught up in the trip

Mr High and Mighty remember when you were low
On the sunny streets of Georgia but that was a long time ago

Mr. High and Mighty will you ever join us again
Will we dance and sing together, will we all join hands

Can’t you hear the voices calling or is it just time for another show
Once again the great have fallen
Did you really have that far to go

“Good Mornin’” From Singing in The Rain
“Something Familier” From A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum

We’ve got two today. One from an good ole’ fashioned Disney movie and another from a Christian artist. We love the both. Check it out below…

We love this because it’s an older sounding song…but it’s also sounds classic and full of romance. Call us old fashioned. Call us weird. Or heck, call us hopeless romantics. I pause in my walking everytime this song comes over my ipod shuffle…

“Bella Notte” from Disney’s Lady and the Tramp
Oh, this is the night
It’s a beautiful night
And we call it bella notte

Look at the skies
They have stars in their eyes
On this lovely bella notte

Side by side with your
loved one
You’ll find the
enchantment here
The night will weave its
magic spell
When the one you love
is near

For this is the night
And the heavens
are right
On this lovely
bella notte

and also,

“Beautiful Love” by The Afters which we just love because it’s got a up tempo, too cool lyrics and you guessed it…a little romance if you wanted to interperet it that way. Yea we know. Hopeless.
Far away, I can feel your beating heart
All alone, beneath the crystal stars
Staring into space, what a lonely face I’ll try to find my place with you

Chorus:
What a beautiful smile
Can I stay for a while
On this beautiful night
We’ll make everything right
My beautiful love

Larger than the moon, my love for you
Worlds collide, as heaven pulls us through
The secret of the world is written in the stars
I’m carrying your heart in mine

Repeat Chorus

Maybe a greater thing will happen
Maybe all will see
Maybe our love will catch like fire
As it burns through me

Repeat Chorus

And now, songs we love jamming to:

“Swing” By Trace Adkins
“Walk Away” by Kelly Clarkson
“Eye to Eye” by Tevin Campbell
“Street Symphony” by Rob Thomas
“L is for the way…” By Frank Sinatra
“Good Mornin’” From Singing in The Rain
“Something Familier” From A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum

Our newest addition is another country song we love to walk the streets of Manila to…

Oklahoma Texas Line by Rascal Flatts

Got an old dog, it don’t like me much
That thing starts to bark his head off every time we touch
Sittin’ on the porch listenin’ to the radio
We sing every single song we know
Even the ones we don’t
When she moves a little closer
She puts her hand in mine
Oh what I wouldn’t give to stop the hands of time

She’s got long blonde hair and big blue eyes
I got all I ever need when at girl is by my side
Everything I love is there inside
A little brick house on the Oklahoma-Texas Line

She’s got a part time job at the Tastee-freeze
She took the weekend off to spend a little bit of time with me
I got an old car we drove to the edge of town
We stopped by Old Man Millers’ farm
Just to watch the world spin around

And she moves a little closer
She puts her lips to mine
Ain’t funny how the good Lord out does himself sometimes

She’s got long blonde hair and big blue eyes
I got all I ever need when at girl is by my side
Everything I love is there inside
A little brick house on the Oklahoma-Texas Line

Everything I love is there inside
A little brick house with a black top drive
Big oak tree with our names carved on the side

She’s got long blonde hair and big blue eyes
I got all I ever need when at girl is by my side
Everything I love is there inside
A little brick house, little brick house on the Oklahoma-Texas Line

Oh here they come
Long blonde hair and big blue eyes
Everything I love…

“Good Mornin’” From Singing in The Rain
“Something Familier” From A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum

I love this song because 1) it’s country and 2) it’s just fun to “bounce” to as I walk the streets of Manila or when I’m trying to beat the clock at work. And here it is, the latest in the long list of my favorite songs…
