nablowrimo day 1- This is me

Oct02
2008
Written by Aaron DeLay

Today marks the first official day of my nablowrimo writing.  I am so far one day in debt but I believe within my prose powered brain rests that extra post that will reach into the night sky and give y’all something to utter “ooh” and “ahh” at my masterful masterpiece.  Maybe I’m overstating my talent a bit much.  I think my line between reality and fantasy is looking a bit smudged from this high throne…

All kidding aside, I’ll do you right nablowrimo. Each day.  What I type may be offensive, derivative, pensive or intuitive. Hell, it might even change the world and bring hope to the masses with the keystrokes I tap. Who knows. When a butterfly flaps it’s wings…you never know where that wind will end up flowing.

The title of this blog post is “This is me” and I intend to wax poetic about myself. Of course I’m not one to boast, brag or bluster about my talents, skills or unnatural powers. Tho’, that last one you need to see to believe. Seriously. X-men ain’t got nothin’ on me!

I am a nerd. Literally and figuratively. I am into blogging, computers, jpegs and all the coolest new technology (the ones I can afford). I embody the song, “White and Nerdy”. Back in the day it was All About the Pentiums, LAN Parties, Command and Conquer, Warcraft, Starcraft and Star Trek. Is it bad that that hasn’t really changed?

I am a geek. I still get all flustered talking to pretty ladies. I can crush all day long but when the time comes to put foot to the pavement and get into first gear I stall out on the hill to success. Hell, I burn straight through second gear and blow the car to kingdom come as I try out my moves.

I’m a writer. Everyday life inspires in me some of the greatest scenes for the unwritten prose that rests in the fore part of my noggin’. I find the hope and dreams in the moments with those I pass. I see the pain, the struggle and the daily monotony as a deeply intriguing study in humankind. I thrive in peoples problems. I delight in trying to solve them. I struggle to help those in need. I find my plots and tales in them. Most remain unwritten, stalled in the great bastion of frustration of “writer’s block”.

I am a man of God who works through his struggles every second of the day and is at times on the ropes or nearly finished. I find my way back and forth and in between. My relationship with God is always “in progress” and never ending. I delight in reading into the theological and translating to my every day guy level.

I am not heady or above anyone. I am simply right there in the middle with everybody else dealing with life and finding a way to get to the end of the day when I can cheer the blow of the proverbial whistle and cut my path home on the highway.

I am single and wanting. I struggle with dates like any other guy. I’m hopeful but terrified. I’m courageous but skittish.

I’m a Republican. I understand the other side. I don’t hate the other side. I don’t throw mud. I believe I have my way of doing things and running the country. You have yours. Let’s have fun at the voting booth, shall we?

I’m a fun loving guy with a sarcastic bend towards laughter. I cannot go a day without laughing my way through it. Without that sly smile or sparkling excitement in the eyes, there is darkness. In tears and sadness there is nothing but the endless pit of despair. If Monster’s Inc. taught me anything it was that laughter and joy could power a city. And I firmly believe more of it could bring more of us to look at things differently.

I am a stroke survivor at 26. I ain’t looking back. I’m looking forward. And if I have to, I’ll burn straight through third gear to get there.

I love music. It is me. I have over 1,000 artists that I’ve come to love. I am a Disney song geek. I do love many Disney movies. This does not make me a girl. I love the 50′s music scene. 40′s even. Hell, 30′s make me get jiggy. Good jazz can make me tap a toe or even swing my hips. Maybe. Hard rock moves my soul. I do have a love hate relationship with Rap and R&B.

I love Die Hard, Star Trek, Star Wars, Godfather movies, Jack Ryan Movies, Monty Python movies, Mel Brooks movies, movies with guns, ‘sposions, Westerns, Tombstone, Romantic Comedies, Pixar Movies and pretty much everything that is good about films in America.

I am me. Of course there’s so much more to this 26 year old “old soul”. That’s what the next month of “nablowrimo” will be about. Check out the website for other totally amazing bloggers that probably rock more than me. We’ve got a month. Let’s rock and roll! Check it out here.
