Blogger Dustup

Feb08
2007
Written by Aaron DeLay

If you’ve been watching the blogs this week there’s been a dust up going on with former Vice Presidential hopeful John Edwards. His blog-mistress (she was hired, we hear she’s fired, but now we’re not sure) was caught writing some pretty offensive, bigoted and completly intolerant filth. I can say this because I read through a good chunk of it. She dropped the f-bomb over and over in her post and directed the word square at the conservatives that had awoken her furor in a way that made me stand up and walk away from the keyboard.

She has every right to say what she says. No doubt. When you get hired by a serious contender for the job of the President Of These United States of America, prepare to get looked at a little closer. And get ready to be ripped from all sides. Ever heard of the never to be Supreme Court Justice Harriet M? She didn’t make it because they took her down pretty good. And so, it appears the left and right blogs are about to get into it again over this whole debacle.

I’m not going to throw my hat in because my opinion has already been expressed. Her written words (and I say this and people who know me will vouch for this) offended me pretty deeply. I get offended on the surface at times (such as a reviewer did last month) but deep offense takes some work. She did a pretty good job. I will only quote this because you need to understand why people are coming up and saying she’s not good to represent John Edwards.  I picked it up from Malkin.

One thing I vow here and now–you mother******* who want to ban birth control will never sleep. I will **** without making children day in and out and you will know it and you won’t be able to stop it. Toss and turn, you mean, jealous mother*******. I’m not going to be “punished” with babies. Which makes all your efforts a failure. Some non-procreating women escaped. So give up now. You’ll never catch all of us. Give up now.

There were some rules I talked about earlier.  Here’s rule number five: Don’t cuss.  Don’t think it helps free your emotions and makes you look cool.  Sure, your friends might respect you more.  Sure, a small group of people who believe the same you do think it’s hip to let loose like a sailor.

Only it’s not.  It’s uncouth.  It’s stupid.  It’s infantile.  I once had a five year old kid at Circuit City where I worked start shouting the F-word and the S-word because he thought it was funny and his mother had encouraged it and laughed at it until it suddenly became out of control.  We all started looking at her with concern.

Same goes with grown ups.  If you can’t handle your anger and process it, then find a way to stay silent and then do it in private.  You want to look professional?  Don’t slur with words that don’t need to see the light of day.  Bloggers are in the same boat.  The moment you lower yourself with words of four letter value you’ve lost any hope of proving a semblance of a point.  If you simply resort to telling someone off in the fashion above you simply prove you can’t hold a stable argument or discussion.

So, this blog will not (or has it ever) cuss.  I may let a damn fly and you could probably find a few hells’ in this place.  I will retain some level of levelheadedness.  Without it, we’re just a bunch of angry people screaming at the top of our lungs forcing people to listen to the cacohony of a bunch of losers.

Don’t be a loser.  Clean up your language.  And if you don’t wish to clean it up…be ready for people to stop listening and start throwing their own language your way.
