Things I believe

filed under politics…beware, I’m tired and cranky and it’s 2am portland time

This whole Muhhamad cartoon insanity is officially out of control. It is stupid. It is trivial. It is petty. People are dying because you think we shouldn’t be able to draw the guy or have pictures of him in any way state or form. Guess what? That’s life. You’re offended? Cry me a river. Every day I’m offended. People offend my religious beliefs every day and they probably don’t even know it.

You know why? Because I don’t let it bother me. I let it slide off my back. I walk away. I turn the other cheek. I didn’t issue a fatwa on Kevin Smith when he made Dogma. It’s an ok movie, but I know I was cringing all the way through.

Get over yourselves. I understand your religous beliefs. I will tolerate them as much as I can. But I cannot tolerate the Religon Of Peace being touted as such when there is such a large amount of insanity within it. Is it because it is the Middle East? It is because we’re just not understanding enough? What the hell is it folks? You think you can dominate the world? Take over Europe? Have fun.

In fact, go ahead. People complain all the time they hate the government that services them every day. You know, the USA is ripe for a takeover. People saying President Bush isn’t their president. Well folks, you have other choices. You could have a islamic rule where women are covered and can’t leave the house without a man. Or Islamic Rule where you’re president denies the fact that an entire race was nearly wiped out in WWII.

I am tired of hearing new news about this whole cartoon thing. Get over yourselves. Take a cool drink of water. And suck it up. This is the kind of thing that when I start talking about it I get to a point of being speechless.

Tolerance is one thing. Censoring free thought is another. This issue is black and white for me. Someone drew cartoons with Muhammad and out of 12, three were mild offensive. Danish Iman’s took those images and three additional ones that they made up and said all 15 were made in Denmark and were horribly offensive.

The Danish Iman’s started this madness. You know the sick and sad truth about all this? This won’t stop. The ball has been rolling far too long and through too many history books to be finished now. This is history. And here’s what the people in the Middle East (and the world over) are making of it.

People drew editorial cartoons. Muslims got offended because of some rule. They didn’t get the apology. They took the cartoons on tour. People protested. No apology because it’s free speech. And then people rioted some more. And then people started dying.

Over Editorial Cartoons.

When I’m seventy, this will be the story my grandkids will look at me and ask, “Now tell me again Grandpa, why did people die?” If any of us live to see seventy with all this madness.

I hate writing political posts at 2:17am when I’m slightly agitated and cranky from a lackluster “The Brother’s Grim” DVD viewing followed by a better then average “Zathura” DVD watching.

I need a Shirley Temple.
